The short version: Your pattern files and measurements are stored locally. The App does not automatically upload them to us. There is no account, cloud sync or advertising. You can choose to export files or contact support. Some PDF fonts are downloaded from an external provider, as described in Section 7.
This Privacy Policy describes how SewGrader ("the App", "we", "our") handles information in connection with your use of the SewGrader application on Apple platforms (iOS, iPadOS, macOS). It applies to the App Store release, any TestFlight beta distributions, and any future versions unless a separate policy is issued at that time.
By downloading or using SewGrader, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy. If you disagree with anything described here, your only recourse is to discontinue using the App.
The App does not automatically send your personal content to us. In particular, it does not automatically send us the following data:
There are no registration forms, no login screens, and no network calls made by the App to any server operated by us. Drafting, grading and editing work offline. Printing Japanese, Korean or Chinese labels may require an initial font download; the downloaded font can then be used offline.
All content you create in SewGrader — projects, pattern pieces, the Piece Library, settings, and any images you import — is stored exclusively on your device using the standard local storage mechanisms provided by the Apple operating system.
This means:
iCloud Backup: iOS and iPadOS may include the App's local data in your personal iCloud Backup as part of Apple's standard system backup behaviour, if you have iCloud Backup enabled. This is governed entirely by Apple's own privacy policy and settings, not by SewGrader. We do not initiate, control, or have access to any iCloud Backup. You can exclude any app from iCloud Backup in Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → iCloud Backup → Manage Backup.
SewGrader requests the following device permissions. In each case, the permission is used solely for the feature described, and no data obtained through these permissions is stored beyond your device or transmitted anywhere.
| Permission | Why it's needed | Data handling |
|---|---|---|
| Photo Library Optional |
Allows you to import a photo of a paper pattern to use as a tracing reference on the canvas. You choose the specific photo; the App cannot browse your full library without your action. | The selected image is loaded into the App's local canvas only. It is never uploaded, analysed externally, or retained outside your project file. |
| Camera Optional |
Allows you to take a photo of a paper pattern directly from within the App and import it immediately as a tracing reference. | Images captured through the App are stored only in your local project file. They are never sent to any external service or stored in your system Photo Library unless you explicitly save them there. |
| Local Network Not requested |
Not used. | The App does not request access to devices on your local network. Font downloads use an internet connection (see Section 7). |
| Notifications Not requested |
Not used. SewGrader does not send any notifications. | — |
| Location Not requested |
Not used. | — |
| Contacts / Calendar Not requested |

You can review and revoke any permission at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security on your device. Revoking camera or photo library access will disable the image import feature but will not affect any other functionality.
SewGrader is distributed through Apple's App Store and, during development phases, through TestFlight. These are Apple's services, and their operation is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. The following applies:
SewGrader does not integrate any third-party analytics SDK (such as Firebase Analytics, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Sentry, Crashlytics, or similar). There is no code in the App that observes your behaviour, counts feature usage, or sends crash reports to our servers.
Apple provides developers with optional, aggregated, anonymised analytics through App Store Connect (such as total installs, average session length by country, and crash rates) only when individual users have opted in to sharing diagnostics with developers through their iOS settings. This data is:
We may use this aggregated, anonymised data solely to understand which iOS versions are most common and to prioritise bug fixes. It cannot be used to identify you.
The App does not automatically share your pattern files or measurements with third parties. When you export or share a file, you choose its destination. Japanese, Korean and Chinese PDF labels may require a font download through the Google Fonts service. The font request does not contain your pattern or measurements, but the font provider receives network information needed to serve it, including your IP address. Downloaded fonts are cached for later use. The App contains no advertising SDKs, no social login integrations, no in-app purchase analytics, and no remote configuration services.
The App may in the future include optional features that involve external services (for example, cloud pattern sync or community sharing). If such features are introduced, this policy will be updated before the feature is released, and participation will always be explicitly opt-in. You will not be automatically enrolled.
SewGrader does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13 (or under 16 where applicable under local law). The same local-storage design and font-download behaviour described above apply to all users.
The App is not specifically directed at children, and its App Store rating category reflects general suitability. Parents or guardians with questions about their child's use of the App are welcome to contact us (see Section 12).
Under applicable data protection regulations — including the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and similar frameworks — you have rights regarding your personal data. These include the right to access, correct, delete, and export data held about you.
We do not hold a server-side copy of your local pattern files or measurements. You control these files on your device and any copies you choose to export. If you have sent us an email or a project for support, you can contact us about that information (see Section 10). You can delete them at any time by deleting the App or individual projects within it.
If you are a resident of the European Economic Area, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. Given the nature of this App, however, we do not anticipate any grounds for such a complaint.
If you believe we have inadvertently collected data about you, or if you have a data-related concern, please contact us (see Section 12) and we will respond promptly.
Everything above describes the app. This section describes sewgrader.com, which is a different piece of software with different characteristics, and it would be misleading to let the app's answers stand in for the website's.
The site is static: hand-written HTML files served to your browser. There is no login, no comment form, no shopping basket and no server-side code of ours that could record a visit. We set no cookies of any kind, and there is no analytics, advertising, session recording, heat-mapping or A/B testing script on any page.
Google Fonts. The typefaces are loaded from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. This is the one request a page makes to somebody other than our host, and it means Google's servers necessarily see your IP address and browser user agent in order to answer it, under Google's privacy policy. Google states that Google Fonts does not set cookies and does not use the request for advertising profiling; we have no arrangement with Google and receive nothing back from it. If you would rather it did not happen at all, a content blocker will stop it and the site will fall back to your system typefaces, which costs you nothing but the look.
Your language choice. When you pick a language in the footer, the two-letter code is written to your browser's own localStorage under the key sg-lang, so that the site opens in it next time. This is not a cookie: it is never sent anywhere, it stays in that browser on that device, and clearing your site data removes it. Before you choose, the site simply reads the language preference your browser already advertises to every website and picks the closest of its eighteen. That reading happens entirely inside your browser and is not recorded.
Hosting logs. Like any web server, the host serving these files may keep short-lived technical logs of requests — IP address, time, the file requested — for security and to keep the service running. These are ordinary server operations under legitimate interest, not analytics, and they are not used to build any profile of you or combined with anything else.
If you email us at the address on the contact page, we hold that email in order to reply to it, and for as long as the conversation is useful. That is the only circumstance in which we knowingly hold any personal data about you at all, and it is data you chose to send.
If the affiliate programme opens a partner sign-in on this domain, that will involve accounts, payment details and records of sales, which is a genuinely different arrangement. It will be described here before it exists, not after.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example if we add features that involve new data handling, or to reflect changes in applicable law. When we make material changes, we will:
We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the App after a policy change constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
If any future version of SewGrader introduces optional features that involve personal data (such as account creation, cloud sync, or community features), those features will always be explicitly opt-in and accompanied by a clear, plain-language explanation of what data is involved and why.
If you have any questions, concerns, or requests relating to this Privacy Policy or the handling of any data in connection with SewGrader, you can reach us at:
